Cape Charles Elopement

Winter Elopement in Cape Charles, Virginia

Gail and Kris Cape Charles elopement was extra special once you learn about the time and dedication it took to get them here. They share such a beautiful story of waiting for the long distance relationship to be over so that they could start their lives together and never be apart again. Since gay marriage isn’t legal in Thailand or the Philippines, Gail had to wait to get her US citizenship before she could file the petition for Kris to come over to get married. After 7 years and some change, their wait was finally over – and they got married on Gail’s birthday making it extra special!

Vintage, Boho Winter Elopement in Cape Charles

The vision they shared for their elopement was a vintage, boho theme and I think they accomplished it so well. With wedding colors of terracotta, burgundy and sage green – it came together flawlessly.

Getting ready in their cabin Airbnb

Kris and Gail got their hair and makeup done together in their tiny cabin. The Airbnb was tucked in the woods overlooking a beautiful pond. When we arrived to start their elopement photography, we were greeted with a herd of goats and the property dog host, Buddy.

I’ve seen a lot of cute Airbnbs, but this one was one of my favorites so far! The cabin is a renovated bird observation hut that sits on 16 acres of farm land complete with goats, ducks, and chickens. The cabin sleeps 2, perfect for a romantic getaway. The owners also list a vintage 1969 Airstream to rent for extra space (perfect if you have 2 other guests joining you), which this couple did and it made for the cutest photos. This property is conveniently located about 10 minutes from the town of Cape Charles and 45 minutes from Virginia Beach.

After they got their hair and makeup done, we walked over to the Airstream so that they could get in their wedding attire before the ceremony back at the cabin.

The couple chose the back of the cabin to have their ceremony. The deck overlooked the pond and made for the perfect spot to put up their boho wedding arch with their retro neon sign. The couple decided to share personal handwritten vows that were written in these personalized books that matched their vintage theme so well.

Gail and Kris said their vows about 2 hours before sunset to allow plenty of time to celebrate after. Their elopement was in January but the weather was perfect and not too cold. The overcast skies created a moody ambience but allowed for perfect gentle lighting. The wait was finally over, after years waiting for this moment, they said their I do’s and they both broke out in a dance right after. It was the purest moment of overwhelming love and joy!

First dessert, then dinner at the Shanty in Cape Charles, Virginia

After the ceremony, we walked back to the airstream to allow the couple to do their cake cutting and pop champagne. As we headed back we stopped along the way to take some newly married portraits around the property.

After they shared some cake, we ventured down to the Shanty to enjoy some Coke and fries. Talk about the perfect Cape Charles elopement dinner! The fog was heavy and created such a mystical vibe for photos on the pier.
